Ibadan Poly declares lecture free week over death of 6 students in auto crash:

Authorities of The Polytechnic, Ibadan yesterday declared a week lecture-free in the institution to mourn the death of six students of the Department of Quantity Surveying who died in an automobile crash on Monday evening.
Rector of the institution, Prof. Olatunde Fawole, made the declaration yesterday morning as a mark of respect for the dead and the 13 injured students and staff of the institution.
A visit to the campus yesterday showed that all academic and commercial activities were suspended. Even commercial motorcyclists and motorists plying Sango to the campus did not work because of the tragedy that befell the institution.
The 18-passenger bus conveying the students and some staff from Oyo to Ibadan, where they had gone for a naming ceremony of a member of staff of the department, had a burst tyre at Motunde, near Moniya on Ibadan-Oyo Road at about 6:00p.m.
According to the spokesman of Oyo State Police Command, Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu, the bus somersaulted and hit a road divider, which killed six persons on the spot while 13 others were injured.
