NUJ seeks Partnership with Fed.Poly.Oko on Online Journalism:




The Anambra State Chapter of Nigerian Union of Journalism has met with the digital Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko to seek partnership with the Institution on training (workshop) of their members on Online Journalism. The State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Emmanuel Ifesinachi who was the leader of delegation hailed the digital Rector for putting wonderful mass media equipment of public attraction in place. While begging the Institution to assist them with resource personnel and equipment for the training of the NUJ members, the State Chairman said Federal Polytechnic Oko has all it will take to train their members to attain professionalism of zenith. Introducing the newly elected executive members of Anambra State chapter of NUJ, the Chairman commended the Rector for the wonderful relationship he maintains with Staff, Students and the Host Community. He also presented a copy of their maiden Newspaper, which he said would be produced on two (2) weeks basis of 10,000 copies of local contents to the Rector.
In response, the digital Rector who is press-friendly and has elegance for manpower development acceded to their request, promising to support them fully to actualize their goals. He congratulated the new NUJ executive members, urged them to be good opinion leaders and tasked them on Journalism of Sincerity as whatever that is put to the media, especially “Online” has a conflagrated way of spreading.
The Rector applauded their plan and zeal to go Online, saying that one without the Knowledge of ICT is like one without First School Leaving Certificate no-matter your qualification.  The Rector revealed few of his plans to enhance the way students get their results immediately after their examinations. In his words, he said “Any student who graduates from Federal Polytechnic Oko is already computer literate because such student must have used the computer to write his or her examinations. I will digitalize all aspect of the Institution before my tenure ends. From examination card reading mechanism which will scan students before entering into their examination halls, to the timely release of their results. We have started working assiduously to make sure that students get their results on their mobile phones and emails immediately after each paper and very soon, it shall materialize.”
Thanking the digital Rector, the Secretary of Nigerian Union of Journalist, Anambra State Chapter said he would not forget in a hurry, the kind and laudable gesture of friendship extended to them by Prof.Godwin Onu. He promised that the NUJ will assist the mass communication students of Federal Polytechnic Oko to find relevance in the workplace practically and otherwise.
