The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Commander, Mr. Sunday
Ajayi with his team, visited Federal Polytechnic Oko on the 11th day of March,
2016(Today). In his usual eloquence, the Public Relation Officer, Mr.Obini Onu Chukwu
introduced the Management team of the Polytechnic who were present in the likes
of the Digital Rector of the moment, Prof.Godwin Onu, the Registrar, the
Bursar, the Chief Librarian, the Deputy Rectors (Academics and Administration),
the Director of Intelligence and the Chief Security Officer. Also introduced
was the representative of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
In his speech, the Corps Commander said he visited to
advocate for safety concern on the use of roads in Anambra State. He said that
the Federal Road Safety Corps alone cannot do rescue services on roads except
Institutions like Federal Polytechnic Oko collaborate with them in the campaign
for safety of lives on the roads in the State and beyond. He also presented a
customized Plate number crested with the inscription “Rector Oko” to the Digitized Rector.
He revealed a summarized importance of some road precautions
which have been taken for granted in past times like Seat belting and answering
of phones while driving.
Focusing on his initial plans for road safety modeling, the
Rector, Prof.Godwin Onu applauded their visit and ordered that no Motorcycle
(Okada) rider should cross the gate of the Institution henceforth without a
Crash Helmet on his head. He also promised to construct road signs within the
school environment as to guide commuters. Apart from that, the Rector promised
to work with his management team to harvest the staff of the Institution who
would be interested in joining Road Transport Safety Standardization Scheme
(RTSSS) like the Special Marshal for the service of humanity and the nation at
large. Finally, he promised to henceforth, invite the men of Federal Road
Safety Corps to the Institution during staff programs, Student’s orientations and
other social activities as to widen the spectrum of Road Safety enlightenment.
Conclusively, the Deputy Rector Academics thanked them for
coming and wished them journey mercies back to their destinations.
